My First 6 If I were to be a Coach

Aside from dreaming to be a volleyball player someday,  I also want to be a coach someday. For me to share my God-given talent in the form of Volleyball. If I would be given a chance to coach a team composed of different players coming off the different teams in UAAP, I will choose the following players;

Pauline Gaston.jpg

  1. ABY MARANO

First and foremost, I will choose the leader of the squad. Out of many players out there, I would be glad if Aby Marano will be the team captain of my dream team. Aside from her swag, I loved her leadership inside the court. When her team is down, she motivates her team mates to continue fighting inspite of being down in terms of set and score.  And as a Coach, I chose her because of the brand of her leadership is. Additionally, Marano was also known for her leadership.

2.  KIM FAJARDO

Aside from the leader, there must be also a playmaker in the team. The playmaker who’ll be the director behind the plays that my dream team would established.  I know you’ll say that I’m a La Salle Fan because 2 players coming from DLSU is in my list of my dream team. I would be happy and overwhelmed if Kim Fajardo will be the playmaker of my dream team. I chose her to be the setter because she can set well even if the first ball is not too good and she’s an all around player too, she can spike, she can block and  she can serve well. She’s a scorer too, remember she’s the best scoring setter in UAAP.

3. ALYSSA VALDEZ

I didn’t chose this player because she’s famous and well-known. I chose her because of her abilities in skills. It would be a privilege if Valdez would be part of my dream team. In my team, I need a powerful yet intelligent in offense that’s why I chose Valdez. She has the capability to read the floor defense of her opponent that’s why she’s also known for her drop balls. Opponents might misinterpret the approach of Valdez when she attacks, they will thought that it will be a power attack but it will be a dumb ball/drop shot only.  Remember, Offense is not always about power, you just have to be smart sometimes for you to score.

4. AIZA MAIZO – PONTILLAS

In my team, I also want to have a veteran player. A veteran player that will help and teach her team mates her skills, experiences and talents in  playing volleyball. I chose Aiza Maizo- Pontillas because of her lethal lefty spikes and additional leadership as well. She can be a leader too like Marano. And in my team I don’t want that there would be only 1 leader in the team, I want everyone as much as possible to be a leader inside the court. Her experience will help the team’s morale, skills and approach inside the court. I also chose her because of her height, she can be an intimidating factor for the opponents because she is a veteran.

5. ALYJA DAPHNE SANTIAGO

I need more height and offense, Santiago can be a threat not only in the net defense but in the offense of the team as well. She can be an open spiker and a middle hitter as as well. I chose her because of her powerful kills, sharp serves and the intimidating factor of her height. And with her height, she can easily ready the floor defense of the other side.

6. LIZLEE ANN GATA-PANTONE

She’s my favorite libero aside from Denden Lazaro. But in terms of her skills and experience, I would rather chose Lizlee Pantone. I chose Pantone because she has a good defense. And  I chose her because of her “puto”, the way she digs the ball. No matter how far the ball is, she can still dig the ball. That’s why she is considered as one of the best liberos in our country

MY LINEUP FOR MY SECOND UNIT:

  • Jovelyn Gonzaga/ Cha Cruz
  • Rhea Dimaculangan
  • Majoy Baron/Kathy Bersola
  • Kim Dy
  • Bernadette Pons
  • Dawn Macandili/ Kath Arado

PS. This is my opinion. You can drop your comments or your own insights and suggestions on the comment box below. Thank you! Good day!

End or Extend?

Will the F2 Logistics end the series or will the Foton Tornadoes force a do-or-die game number 3 in their final duel in PSL All Filipino Conference. During their first game wherein the Cargo Movers emerged victorious after outlasting the Tornadoes in a thrilling 5-set match last August 11,2016.

The Cargo Movers took control of the first 2 sets and then Foton explodes in the 3rd frame limiting the Cargo Movers to nail only 9 pts.

MATCH RESULTS:

SET 1 25-20

SET 2 25-14

SET 3 9-25

SET 4 20-25

SET 5 15-10

KEY PLAYERS:

For the Winning team, F2 Logistics. Instead of considering Marano as the best player for F2 in that game because she is the leading scorer, It was Macandili and Fajardo, the 2 stunners behind F2 great plays and defense played well and contributed a lot. With Fajardo finishing the game with  a game-high 40 excellent sets over Foton’s Dimaculangan who just earned 26 excellent sets. While the defense specialist of F2,  Dawn Macandili bested her arch rival from Foton Bia General who only earned 15 excellent digs and 7 receptions. Macandili earned a game-high of 25 excellent digs and 12 receptions.

For Foton, Rondina shines again for Foton. Rondina leads in the scorers in Foton, followed by the 6 foot 5 Santiago who finished the game with 19 points. Rondina earned 22 pts coming from 17 attacks 3 blocks and 2 service aces.

KEY TO CHAMPIONSHIP

For F2 Cargo Logistics, if they really want to seal their First-ever PSL Title, they should improve on their consistency which is greatly showcased during Game 1.They just need also to be smarter in both defense and offense. No problem at all, F2 needs to show more of their teamwork.

For Foton, It’s their error and consistency that hindered them from taking the Game 1 of the Final Series. If they want to extend the series, they need to be more consistent, less errors, and maximize their  other players like Maika Ortiz, Ej Laure and etc. Rondina and Santiago need to feel the heat on in the start of the Game no. 2. If they will be on fire on the do-or-die Game no. 2, surely F2 will have a hard time to defend Foton.

Both teams are hungry to win, both of them really deserves to earn the Championship Trophy its just that there should be only one winner.

F2 beats RC Cola, Remains Undefeated in PSLAFC

This weekend was a victorious weekend for the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers were they beat the 4-time PSL Champs the RC Cola Army Lady Troopers twice. During their second match up against RC Cola last Sunday, we saw a strong  and agressive F2 Logistics as they had a good day not only in offense but also in Net Defense. In their first match up, Army had a slow start and find its rhythm during the 3rd and 4th set. With the help of the crowd and the defensive players of F2 Logistics, they were able to get their 7th straight win last saturday that marked them on top at the end of the 1st round of eliminations. And last Sunday were the Opener of the second round of eliminations, again F2  Logistics finished strong and able to shut down the Lady Trooper in just straight sets 25-16 25-12 25-14.

The Cargo Movers were just unstoppable last Sunday. They played the game with enjoyment and confidence that help them to easily finished their opening game for the second round of eliminations. And if you’ll combined the record made by the Cargo Movers last round, they already have 8-0 win-loss record, which means that they are on top of the standings and having a solo lead in the conference.

KEY TO VICTORY

  * DEFENSE – Floor defense and net defense, everything is functioning for the Cargo Movers. Their overall defense is very superb especially on their  rematch against the RC Cola Army. They had an easy win over RC Cola who struggled on their defense in that game.  The good thing for F2, everyone of them can receive and dig well that’s why they have a flawless floor defense. For me, their DEFENSE really matter especially in shutting down the 4-ime PSL Champs, the Lady Troopers of RC Cola.

*OFFENSE –   The combined offense of Cha Cruz, Aby Marano, Ara Galang, Kim Dy and Mika Reyes caused army to struggle to have good receptions and to set up a play. For me, Cha Cruz shined for the F2 in terms of Power in attacks and Aby Marano shined in terms of smart drop-shot hits.

*SERVICE  – Another vital key for F2 is their service, during the game last sunday. RC Cola had difficulty in their first ball and they can’t set up good plays because of the good serves released by the Cargo Movers.
